Factors influence wear-resistance of the tungsten carbide cutting tools for graphite
Cutting and Machining Condition
The selection of cutting and machining condition takes very important influence on the cutting tools service life .
a) Cutting method(climb milling and conventional milling)
The vibration of climb milling is softer than conventional one .In climb milling ,the cutting depth of cutting tools is reduced from its max value to zero, after cut into the workpiece ,the cutting tools would not be rebind because of unavailable to cut the chips ,meanwhile ,the rigidity of technology system is good with very small vibration. On the contrary ,in conventional milling ,the cutting depth of cutting tools is increased from zero to its max value, under its initial cutting stage ,the cutting tools would scratch a stretch owing to the cutting depth is very thin , at this time,if the cutting edge encounters hard spot of the graphite material or residual chip powder on the workpiece surface ,will bring knife-rebounding and vibration ,so the vibration of conventional milling is more serious .
b) Blowing(dusting) or immersion EDM liquid machining
Cleaning up the graphite powders on the workpiece surface is very helpful to reduce second-time wear of the cutting tools ,prolong its service life ,low the graphite dust influence on the lathes’ leading screw and rail.
C) Other issues
Selection of an appropriately high speed and big feeding.
Summarizing above points ,the cutting tools material ,geometric angle ,coating, strengthening of cutting edge and machining condition play different role to influence cutting tools service life respectively ,which have to work together and mutually reinforcing .A good cutting tool for graphite must have good and smooth graphite powder discharging groove ,long service life ,and it is available to take deep-carving machining ,so as to save cost .
