Sleeve Inlaying of Tungsten Carbide Drawing Dies

Author : Date : 2011-8-14 22:28:21
Sleeve Inlaying of Tungsten Carbide Drawing Dies

Tungsten carbide has very good wear-resistance ,but its toughness is low ,meanwhile ,as the tungsten carbide wire drawing dies have to bear very heavy stress in the drawing process, consequently ,in order to improve the wire drawing dies’ toughness and avoid rupture,so we must inlay the drawing dies into the steel sleeve .Of course ,we have to select proper steel sleeves’ material according to the drawing condition,so as to get its best performance.

The blanks of tungsten carbide drawing dies must be inlayed into the sleeve steadily before polishing and whetting ,and its service life is largely determined by the inlaying work..Especially when it is used to draw big-diameter or hard materials, the quality of sleeve inlayed takes much more important role on its service life ,meanwhile ,we must make sure the blanks are fixed steadily in the sleeve in the actual drawing temperature ,so we can ensure the drawing dies service life

The drawing die should be concentricity with the sleeve ,and the center line of the die’s hole has to be vertical with the sleeve support. If any skew happened when inlay the drawing die into the sleeve ,you could not draw the metals correctly in the drawing process.

The materials of drawing dies’ sleeve must reach the following requirements
1.      It must have good resistance to the corrosion of the lubricants
2.      Its linear expansion coefficient must be close to the tungsten carbide drawing die’s,so as to ensure the die and sleeve fixed steadily .
3.      It must have high elasticity coefficient ,so as to resist the size-enlarge of die in drawing process and sleeve deformation after drawn .
4.      It must have comparatively high yield strength .

Actually ,the sleeve’s materials must be selected according to the drawing condition ,the grade 45 and 50 both ok ,and also you can select T8A,T10A,T12 carbon steel ,however ,if you draw the metals with heavy stress ,it is better to choose the alloy steel as sleeve’s materials such as 9Crsi,5CrMnMo,35CrMnsi etc.
