The Harm of η Phase in Tungsten Carbide Products
If the carbon content is lower than its standard chemical value in tungsten carbide products ,it will cause the emerging of the η phase in them.The optimal carbon content in WC is 6.13% .and its acceptable range is 6.05%~6.14%.Less than 6.02% of carbon will lead to the visible carbon-lack,resulting in formation of η phase such as “W”,”Co2C” and “W2C”.
The measurement for the volume of η phase carbides in tungsten carbide products is the same programs as the measurements for the porosity.
The carbide η phase existing in the tungsten carbide products will badly influence its transverse rupture strength and increase its frangibility .
