Grade Selection for Tungsten Carbide Inserts
The reasonable selection of the grades for carbide inserts mainly depend on the grades ‘performance and workpieces’ materials.Actually we usually select the grades of tungsten carbide inserts as per the workpieces material and machining condition from the carbide inserts manufacturer.
The carbide inserts composition and performance is different from different factory, the express for the grades is also different.Hereby ,in order to convenient customers,ISO stipulates the tungsten carbide grades for cutting process are divided into three categories according to its chip-type and workpieces’ material. They are type P, type M and type K.Meanwhile ,as per the workpiece’s material and insert applying condition, each category is divided into several groups, symboled with Arabic numerals, in addition the bigger the numerals ,the lower the wear-resistance but higher the toughness in each category.
Type P carbide inserts including ceramics are used for process the metals with long chips such as steel, cast steel, forgable iron, stainless steel, heat-resistance steel,in which ,the bigger of the numerals ,the bigger of the feed and cutting depth ,but the slower of machining speed .
Type M carbide inserts are used for process the ferrous and non-ferrous metals with long and short chips, such as steel ,cast steel ,austenitic stainless steel,heat-resistance steel, forgable iron, alloy cast-iron etc,in which the bigger of the numerals ,the bigger of the feed and cutting depth but slower of machining speed.
Type K carbide inserts are used for process ferrous metals with short chips ,nonferrous and nonmetallic materials such as cast iron, aluminum alloys ,copper alloys, plastic, hard Bakelite etc,in which ,the bigger of the numerals ,the bigger of the feed and cutting depth ,but the slower of machining speed .
