Hardness Difference Between Category P and K Carbide Materials
Category P tungsten carbides are consist of WC-Ti-Co,but the K ones are composited with WC-Co.
The carbonized materials such as WC and TiC are high hardness, thus the tungsten carbide parts are high hardness too, which ranges HRA89~93.In the meantime, its hardness is changed depending on the varying of properties of carbide, qty and grain size, also decreased with increasing of binding phase. If the binding phase content is the same, the hardness of ones with WC-TiC-Co is higher than that of the WC-Co ones.
On the other hand, the tungsten carbides' hardness is reduced over the temperature increase. When it is 700~800℃,some ones keep the same hardness as the high speed steels in normal temperature, but some ones are lower than it.As the tungsten carbides' hardness is depending on the carbonized materials' hardness in the high temperature, thus the WC-TiC-Co materials's hardness is higher than the WC-Co ones in the high temperature condidtion. However,if add TaC(Nbc) into the materials,it is a good way to improve the red hardness siganificantly.
