The super hard cutting knives are consist of the ones made of diamond or CBN materials ,in which the knives made of PCD and PCBN play the main role .There are many machining concepts such as green machine ,turning instead of grinding ,milling instead of grinding ,machining in hard status ,high-speed cutting ,and dry-cutting etc are initiated from the application of super hard cutting knives ,so they are the indispensable means in cutting process .With the progress of the science and technology , fast development of manufacturing ,CNC machining , and widely application of CNC machines ,the production of super hard cutting knives and its application has become more and more commonly .The PCD and PCBN cutting knives are widely used in the traditional areas such as machinery ,metallurgy ,geology, petroleum, coal ,stone and construction, meanwhile ,they have been widely used in the high-technology areas like electronic information, aerospace ,national defense as well as cars ,appliances emerging fields. As reported ,the annual sales of PCD and PCBN tools in China is over 400,000 pcs with turnover less than RMB2 million, on the contrary ,as per official statistic report shows that the total sales amount of potential market for these two kinds of tools is over USD1.5 billion. Therefore ,we can say there is really a very promising market ahead for these tools .
Nevertheless, for the Chinese tool manufacturers, if they want to take ride of this high-speed running car, there is really a lot of work ahead waiting them to do. As the super hard tools are top quality products with heavy manufacturing strength, high technical threshold, so at present ,they are controlled by foreign manufacturers ,and only very small amount taken by Chinese producers. As per the survey report from a advisory website in China surveying on super hard tools suppliers ,and end users ,in 2009,the top list companies of compound and super hard cutting tools are foreign companies completely ,such as 6 elements(30%),DI(20%),Sumitono(18%),MegaDiamond(4.5%),TomeiDiamond(4.5%),Dennistools(4%),they have vacuppied 90% of the market .In other word ,the super hard cutting tools in China are in the infancy stage, meanwhile ,there are some problems restrict the tools manufacturers development fast, main points as following .
1) The uniformity of domestic PCD and PCBN cutting tools materials is very poor ,and its quality is unstable
2)The sharping equipment for super hard cutting tools is undeveloped in domestic ,we are incapable to provide with the sharping machines same as foreign companies .
3)The domestic super hard cutting tools are not formed with standard and systematic ,resulting in poor quality and consistency .
4)The basic research for application of super hard tools is not deep ,systematic and unavailable to guide the correct and reasonable application of downstream manufacturers
5)Our super hard cutting tools also have the problems like the connection and clamping means with lathes ,clamping structure of inserts ,insert material and structure ,the tools clamping means in high-speed spindle ,and the machinery balance of rotary tools etc a series problems
6) In capable to design and produce of high precision and complex super hard tools,for instance ,we are still unavailable to produce the super hard cutting tools for machining of the key parts in cars and aerospace.
