The Tools for Testing of Tungsten Carbide Hardness
The tungsten carbide hardness is usually tested with Rockwell hardness tester ,HRA scale, and Vicker hardness tester. The application for different hardness of tungsten carbide
Tungsten carbide material with high hardness and wear-resistance ,which is usually used to make cutting tools, measuring gauges, moulds etc Generally speaking ,when the material with high hardness ,its wear-resistance is high ;when it with high T.R.S ,its toughness is high .On the contrary ,if the material with high hardness ,its T.R.S and toughness is low .High speed steel is the main material for cutting tools due to its high T.R.S ,high toughness and good machinability,followed by tungsten carbide material .
In tungsten carbide materials ,one material taking one or several carbides such as TiC,WC etc as hard phase, and alloy steel such as high speed steel,molybodenum chrome steel powder as binding phase ,it is called steel binding tungsten carbide.The binding tungsten carbide hardness is between steel and tungsten carbide but its toughness is increased significantly,meanwhile it is available to take cutting process and heat treatment This kind of steel binding tungsten carbide hardness is 69~73HRC after processed with hardening and tempering .However the high speed steel hardness is only 65HRC
