How to Distinguish Tungsten Carbide Grades
There are really a lot of different tungsten carbide grades in our life, in order to catch its different function as tool in various industries, so how to distinguish them, find the difference among them and select the right tungsten carbide grade in using seems more and more important for us. Here, we introduce the way to distinguish the various tungsten carbide grades and hope it is help for you to find their difference and select the right tungsten carbide grades as per your actual needs.
The common using tungsten carbide with WC as its main content, meantime, it is divided into three categories depending on whether add other carbides or not .
1) WC+Co tungsten carbide (YG series),mainly for machining pig iron
It is made of WC and Co, with high transverse rupture strength and toughness ,good conductivity ,but its thermal and wear resistance is comparatively bad ,it is mainly used for machining cast iron and nonferrous metals .The fine grain YG tungsten carbide such as Yg3X and Yg6X which hardness and wear resistance is better than the medium size tungsten carbide at the same cobalt content .,but worse at T.R.S and toughness ,it is capable to machine hardened cast iron, austenitic stainless steel, heat-resistance alloy and hardened bronze .
2) WC+TiC+Co tungsten carbide (YT series),mainly for machining wrought iron
As the Tic’s hardness and melting point are higher than the WC’s,so its hardness ,wear resistance, red hardness ,adhesion temperature ,anti-oxidization performances are better than YG series tungsten carbide .Meanwhile ,in the high temperature ,the TiO2 generated in Tic tungsten carbide can reduce adhesion .However ,its heat-conductivity ,anti-bending strength is bad ,consequently ,it is capable to machine steel etc ductile materials .
3)WC+TiC+TaC+Co tungsten carbide(YW or YS series),mainly for machining heat-resistance steel, high-manganese steel, stainless steel etc hard-machined materials.
TaC(NbC) is added into the YT series tungsten carbide materials ,its T.R.S ,anti-shocking toughness ,high-temperature hardness ,anti-oxidization strength and wear-resistance all are increased .Not only it is available to machine steel ,also can machine cast iron and nonferrous metals .Therefore it is often referred to as general tungsten carbide or known as universal cemented carbide.
